أقدم ساعة مائية مصنوعة من المرمر
تعود هذه الساعة التي تصنف كاول ساعة في تاريخ البشرية إلى عصر الدولة الحديثة الأسرة الثامنة عشر عهد الملك العظيم أمنحتب الثالث .. 1370 قبل الميلاد .. وتم استخدامها في معبد أمون (آمين) بالكرنك.
الساعة مصنوعة من المرمر وتحتوى على 12 خطا منحوت من الداخل تقابل ساعات الليل والنهار .. وهو ما يؤكد أن السادة المصريين كانوا اول من استخدم النظام الإثنى عشري
وفكرة عمل الساعة تقوم على تدفق الماء عبر فتحة صغيرة جدا مصنوعة في وسط القاع .. ولمعرفة الوقت كان يتم النظر داخل الحوض لمراقبة مستوى الماء وقراءة الوقت وفقا لأقرب خط
أما السطح الخارجي للساعة المائية فهو
مزين بأشكال ونصوص دينية علي هيئة
رموز لبعض الكواكب والأبراج وتعطي قائمة بالأرواح الواقية لكل من الأيام العشرة من
الأسبوع المصري القديم وفي الجزء
الأوسط يوجد به النجوم القطبية .. لتظهر
تلك الرسوم مدى ما وصل اليه السادة المصريين في علةم الفضاء والكواكب .. حيث كانوا اول من اكتشف واخترع هذا
العلم.
